Awoken Truth

Posted by -edz- on 9:06 AM
I've buried my pen and paper behind my past
They no longer served their purpose
I forgot what it was like
And yet I feel these strange emotions inside
I'm suddenly writing these words
When the days didn't use to be colorful
My heart woke up from a long slumber
And it is overwhelmed with happiness

You've unlocked the doors to my heart
You've turned the lights on
and brought the sun back to this life
But this bliss will not last a lifetime
For at the end of the day you are not with me
I'll wake up in the morning to realize I do not hold the key to yours
And the truth is not mine to own

I've never been brave enough to face the world
But your presence served my strength and comfort
I know the reality but somehow
the more I know the more I want you
And I can only blame myself for falling

As I close my eyes tonight
I cannot promise not to think of you
Because even when they're open
You're all I think about

Twinkle Little Stars

Posted by -edz- on 12:40 PM in ,
A couple of days ago, I random question hit me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the answer myself. So I thought I’d post that question here and ask your opinions about it.

Do you believe in zodiac signs compatibility? Like, how you’re unconsciously attracted to the sign astrology says you’re compatible with. Why and why not? Were there any experiences that caused you to believe such?

I know it sounds like a childish question. But seriously, have you thought of whether it's true that the stars can tell the future? 'Cause that's how the famous seer, Nostradamus, read the future. So I hope you can help me find a conclusion to this query. Thank you.

Oct 17 Sunrise Rumor Debunked

Posted by -edz- on 6:31 PM in , ,
Today I received a text message from an old pal and this is what it says:
“Coming October 17, 2008 the sun will rise continuously for 36 hrs (1.5 days). During this time the US countries will be dark for 1.5 days.
It will convert 3 days into 2 big days. It will happen once in 2400 yrs. We're very lucky to see this. So don't miss it. –Courtesy of CNN/BBC News”

Sometime last week another friend also asked me if I’ve heard of this news. It was the first time I’ve heard of such so I tried to research it but didn’t find any coming CNN or BBC. Since tomorrow is the 17th of October I decided to write an entry about this. Sorry to disappoint you guys but this is hoax. False. Untrue. (Just like any other chain letters or emails.) I don’t know who started this faulty report but isn’t it funny how a lot of people spend so much time spreading it?

This online rumor actually started circulating sometime last August. David Emery, of About.com, wrote an entry last 15th of September debunking that “During a one-month period from mid-August to mid-September 2008, over 15,000 postings containing the phrase ‘the sun will rise continuously for 36 hours’ appeared on the Internet.”

As we all know the sun does “rise” continuously. We only perceive it as setting because the earth, while rotating on its own axis, revolves around the sun. The sun does not really (literally) stop rising or slow its speed of setting. So for such 36 hours sunrise phenomenon to happen, the earth would actually have to stop revolving and rotating on its orbit. And guess what, that has never happened and will never happen.

So for you out there waiting for that supposed 1.5 days of sunrise or 1.5 days of darkness, you can continue to live your normal life and go on with your daily activities since no such report will occur.

Pefect Pearls for Gifts and Keeps

Posted by -edz- on 9:54 AM in ,
My sister has always been a user of jewelry. And her favorite piece is her pair of pearl earrings. She always tells me that it’s a classic. And I do agree with her. Pearls are something that lasts almost ‘till forever. One thing I love about pearls is that it never falls out of style.

So I was so glad to find this website that sells pearl jewelries! Upon stumbling into this site, I realized I found the perfect gifts for my sister and mom and my girl friends. Perfect timing since Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner.

All of their pearls are guaranteed 100% genuine and have been appraised by an IGI graduate gemologist. And one of the best things about their products is that every pearl was hand-picked and hand-knotted. Now as a buyer, I would definitely love to purchase a product that was wonderfully done and perfected in every possible detail.

This online store has everything available in pearls! They have freshwater pearl necklaces, akoya pearl necklaces, and, the best part, black pearl necklaces. You can also get these pearls in bracelets and earrings! Now you would think that pearls like these would mean spending fortunes. No! You’re wrong. In their site, all products are sold in wholesale prices. They even have items below $100! It can’t get any better than that, right? How else can you get something so exquisite at such an affordable price? Plus, they ship any where in the world.

I’m glad that in the coming holidays I won’t go through all the trouble of looking for gifts. Like I said, this is a wonderful place to shop for fine and superb presents for family and friends and even to one’s self. I’m good for the season. My sister and girl friends will surely love me more with their new pearl jewelries. And like those classic pearls, our friendship will last till forever too.

To visit this pearl jewelry website just click on the link.

Twilight Is Here!

Posted by -edz- on 12:14 AM in , ,
Here's something everyone's (almost if not everyone) been waiting for. The latest Twilight trailer. Now if you don't know anything about the Twilight series I suggest that you go and get a life. Haha! I'm just kidding! If you know nothing about it then what are you waiting for? Go and play the trailer to know what's the biggest book series since Harry Potter!

Seriously! I can't wait for this film to be out! As most of you know, the original play date isn't until the second week of December. But luckily, the newest Harry Potter film was moved to summer of next year so Twilight right away filled in the vacant spot. So this Thanksgiving, here's something to look forward to and be thankful about.

And I have a feeling it's going to be crazy!!!!!!

A dear friend of mine has been very busy the past couple of weeks (even months) preparing for a theatrical event. She, and her crew, spent so much effort (not to mention time and money) on this project so I’m very sure it will come out as a successful event. Unfortunately, I will not be physically there to watch the event and congratulate her and her team for a wonderful job done. So instead I am going to post a picture (or copy of the banner) of the said event. To the people of Cagayan de Oro City, I hope you will take time to watch their wonderful show.

And to my friend, I’m sure as the play dates draw closer the more the pressure and the anxiety your feeling. But don’t worry, cause as your efforts will soon be paid off. You are one great artist and I believe in you. So God bless and good luck to your crew and break a leg! (Not literally okay?!) Just enjoy and have fun. The goal doesn’t really matter much compared to the journey. Don’t worry for the curtains will close after every performance.

Internet Casinos

Posted by -edz- on 11:05 PM in ,
I once had a talk with my neighbor about any musical instruments he can play. I told him about me and my siblings playing more than one instrument. My brother then showed him some guitar skills he learned by himself. Unfortunately, my neighbor doesn’t play any of the musical instruments we play. Instead the music he hears all the time is the sounds of the slot machines in online casinos. I guess living in the Sin City does have an advantage.

Indeed the casinos here in Vegas are amazing. They all have wonderful unique designs that never fail to amuse any visitors. Unfortunately, I can only enjoy the beauty of the casinos here in Vegas. I cannot enjoy the fun of playing those slot machines by myself since I am considered underage. Yeah, no longer a minor but not yet old enough to play in the casino. But that’s okay there are many ways to enjoy the fun of casino online games and the internet is just one way. I may not be able to play on an exact slot machine but who cares – that’s what the internet is there for.

888 Let It Begin

Posted by -edz- on 11:08 PM in
As we all know yesterday was the world’s biggest day. It was the start of the 17-day long summer Olympics competition, a tradition that started way back in Athens in the year 776 BC. After four years of intense training, athletes all over the world will be able to showcase their skills and compete in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. It is the battle among the best.

As we all know, this year’s Olympics has been prepared by China since over 8 years ago. Well, that’s as far as I can remember. It was all worth it, I guess. The opening ceremony was like no other. It was incomparable. The Chinese government has put on so much time, effort, and money on this event. It was just the most expensive and majestic opening ceremony ever. They did it! The whole world was in awe with their rich presentation. Credit goes to them for a wonderful 2008 Summer Olympics.

If you ask me what team I am cheering for. Well, that’s a tough question. (Hahaha!) I guess it’s not if I can cheer for two teams, right? Go Team USA and Team Philippines. It is understandable though if most of the time I’ll be cheering for the U.S. since they are competing in more events that the Philippines. But I love them both.

And as they say, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Side note: It was also yesterday when YouTube started its 2-day 888 YouTube gathering in Canada.

Business Card for 10-Year-Old Boy Battling Leukemia

Posted by -edz- on 10:28 PM in

I’m sure some of you have heard the case of Brandon Rayner. I only knew about his story at my work last Sunday. He is a 10-year-old kid who has an acute illness. He is a bright and bubbly kid who survived a brain tumor about a year ago. Unfortunately, he was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.

This little boy has 2 final wishes. He is in search for a bone marrow donor match that would give him the miracle of another life. And a simple wish of setting a world record as the one with most business cards ever collected. For the past two years he has been collecting business cards from 3 states in the U.S. He currently has about 18,000 and is asking every one’s help to eventually reach 150,000. He is hoping to get some from outside the U.S.

KVBC/DT Las Vegas reported that Brandon’s collection also serves a practical purpose. “Because if I ever need to call someone, I have their card,” Brandon said.

Brandon’s request is a simple wish that we can all take part of. If you’d like to add to his card collection, please send your card (or piles of unused business cards) by August 15 to:

Brandon Rayner
Sunrise Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Oncology
3186 S. Maryland Parkway,
Las Vegas, NV 89109

(A customer told me last Sunday that Brandon’s wish is absurd. It would have been better if he requested to go to Disneyland. I told her, “It’s because Brandon thinks differently than children his age. That’s what makes him special. He wants to be part of history and leave this world with a mark. That’s why he’s doing this.”)

I live in Las Vegas and hope to meet little Brandon one of these days.

Parents Forgot Their Daughter At Airport

Posted by -edz- on 10:50 PM in

Summer getaways are supposed to be fun and exciting especially when you’re going to one of the world’s most popular destinations – Paris, France. Unfortunately, that is not the case for one Israeli family. The unidentified couple, along with their 5 children, was running late for a charter flight from Jerusalem to Paris last Sunday. In their hopes to catch the flight, they made a dash to the airport gate taking with them their duty-free shopping bags and 18 suitcases while leaving behind their 3-year-old daughter at the airport. (Yes, they accidentally left their daughter.)

A policeman found the child wandering in the duty-free area at Ben-Gurion airport, which is Israel’s bustling main international airport. The officer immediately alerted the airline staff; unfortunately, the airplane already left.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld reported that the parents never realized they boarded the aircraft with only 4 children until 40 minutes in the air when the cabin staff informed them. The little girl was accompanied by an airline staffer on the next flight to Paris where she reunited with her family.

Unfortunately, as soon as they get back to Israel after their European vacation, the parents would have to face police questioning for suspicion of parental negligence.

Cash Advance - Answer to Your Problems

Posted by -edz- on 10:34 PM in

With the crumbling housing market in the U.S. and rising unemployment rates, people are now tighter with budgeting than ever. Cash is no longer the preferred type of payment by consumers. Plastic money or credit cards make consumers’ lives more convenient and accessible. However, credit cards have various fees such as annual fees and interest rates, and not to mention some hidden fees, that result to consumers less frequent use of them. Poor management and late payments cause consumers to be piled up with debts. Fortunately, the internet provides a number of opportunities for consumers to help them manage their finances and avail cash advance loans.

Have you done your part?

Posted by -edz- on 1:15 PM in , , ,
I’ve been so busy for the past couple of weeks that I haven’t checked out the latest news about the Philippines (even here in the U.S.). Today I heard from my mother that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo made her SONA (State Of the Nation Address). And of course the usual reaction from the Filipinos – rallies and oppositions. Since I was younger I always thought that all these rallies and oppositions all add up to the chaos that is already present in the country. I think that by doing so, the people are only making the situations worse.

Here’s what I think:

  1. Why put all the blame to Pres.GMA? I am not a big follower of the president not because I dislike her or what but because I am not a big Politics person. (You know what I mean.) I have faith in government and democracy but what made me lose faith in the system is the quality of people, in general, governing the nation.
  2. Where are the other officials elected to run the country? The senators? Congressmen? Governors? Mayors? And other representatives? They should take responsibilities for all their actions. They are all partly to be blamed for whatever it is that’s happening in the Philippines right now. Chaos? Disunity? The reason why the citizens behave in such manner is because their own leaders don’t have one voice. One group doesn’t believe in President Arroyo so they don’t show up during the SONA? What kind of leaders are they when they can’t even show some amount of respect to the country’s president? How can these leaders lead their citizens and bring some amount of hope and progress to the nation when they can’t even teach themselves some morals? Citizens, don’t put all the blame on the President, what are your locally elected officials doing to help you?
  3. Enough about the officials, now it’s your turn. What are you doing for your country? As former U.S. President John F. Kennedy said,“ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” So to those citizens who keep on complaining about their sufferings and the worsening economy of the Philippines, let me ask you – What have you done to help improve the state of your country? I guess nothing. Other than whining, complaining, and constantly putting the blame on other people – nothing. No wonder the country, as you said it, keeps on sinking further to the bottom. Stop complaining and do something!
The country, just like any other relationships, is a partnership between the people and their officials. Without cooperation the Philippines will definitely sink. There is still great hope for the country. If we all pause, look at the person beside us, and help each other stand up – we can all make it! We were once a nation who conquered the universe, we can still do it now. All we have to do is open our minds, listen to the other party, and unite. How difficult can that be? We made it before; therefore, we can do it again.

The Dark Knight

Posted by -edz- on 10:23 PM in ,
There were a couple of great movies out last week so guess what I did? Went to the movies of course! And what movie set the record last weekend? Of course! There’s no other than – “The Dark Knight.” This movie created a big buzz months before it was released, I guess one obvious reason is the death of Heath Ledger who is playing the notorious Joker.

What can I say about the movie? Well, it was fantastic! (Either that or I just have a really poor taste when it comes to movies.) Why did I say that? Well, a lot of new aspects were added that helped make more sense out of the film and the Batman story as well. Each background music were set at exactly the right timing to prepare the audience and squeeze from them the right emotions needed to fully immerse themselves in the film. I think the plot was very well planned. One would think that the story ends as soon as the villain was captured but no. Every scene was something to look forward to. You really have to hold your breath until the end of the film. The visual effect was amazing too. Technology has indeed created a new and exciting world. All the actors did an amazing job in their acting as well. (No wonder there is a big buzz of Heath Ledger possibly winning an Oscars for his acting in the said film.) There are a lot of other good things in the movie but you just have to find it out for yourself. A number of memorable mind boggling lines are worth figuring out. Just remember that the film is literally not based on the concepts of DC comics. It is more than that. There are a couple of underlying themes that you have to uncover for yourself.

Some critics said this batman movie is quite a dark film. Perhaps it is. But one thing's for sure - “The Dark Knight” is a great and interesting film that is worth the watch.

Oh by the way, Christian Bale is pretty hot for a Batman who's claustrophobic.

I'm Back!!! Latest Update

Posted by -edz- on 9:35 AM in ,

Hello my co-bloggers and other visitors. Sorry to keep you waiting for updates, links, and other feedbacks. I just got preoccupied with the other aspect of my life. (As if!)

As most of you might have read in my previous posts, I recently started a new job and I love it. Although not every part of it but in general I’m getting used to the hang of it. I’ve been doing what I’ve been doing there for the past 2 weeks and so far I’ve been excelling. Just the other day they gave me the option to grab a free pizza or ice cream for a job well done with our customers/members. They are proud of me since I’m still a newbie and I’m already working way ahead of my game. Woohoo! Of course I’m not stopping anytime soon.

Another reason why I love my new job is because of the number of people I’ve met and mingled with for the past couple of weeks. I used to always be an introvert and a shy lady until a couple years ago when I realized I needed to break that shell and protective circle. I am so grateful that I am doing great with both school and work. Of course, my family is great too. They have always been so supportive.

Of course though I have not posted any updates for the past couple of weeks, it doesn’t mean I’ve been forgetting and neglecting this blog. I very much appreciate the comments and messages you guys left on the chatbox and on my previous entries. Really guys, I really appreciate them.

As soon as I get my schedule fix, I will arrange the links on the side and add the addresses of the bloggers who recently added me on their links. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget you and I know who you guys are. Thanks my co-bloggers! I love you all! And as I always say, HAPPY BLOGGING!

I Made My Sister Cry

Posted by -edz- on 10:05 PM in , ,
Well, sorry I didn't really make her cry. I'm not that witch type of sister that people usually see on TV. Here is what happened:

I woke up early today to join my job orientation. Just when you think that would be a really exciting activity, I was there for 10 hours!!! Yes, 10 HOURS of orientation!!! How exhausting can that get, right? Good thing they pay us for the hours that we were there or my companions and I would have rallied and protested. So after a really exhausting day I had to spend a couple more minutes with errands before finally driving back home. Of course my loving family didn't eat dinner yet because they were waiting for me. I dozed off for a bit while waiting for my siblings to finish setting the table. During dinner my sister asked me if I have work during Saturdays and Sundays and I said yes. And she got sad because she thinks I have been so busy lately that we had very little time to talk to each other. My mom said I could come with them to the movies this Saturday since I will get of work early. But I refused to. As much as I love movies, I have to study for the two exams I have for Monday. Then tears fell on my sister's cheeks as she said that she's okay since she once got used to the life of not being with me. And I saw my mom's frustration as she dropped her head when she knew I can't go with them again.

Just so you know, last Saturday, they all went out for movies from 1 in the afternoon until 10 in the evening. It was part of our father's day weekend but I did not go with them.

To my family:
Although I don't really need to work while attending school, I want to. I want to help the family by supporting and financing my own education and other expenses. It's okay, I know I have been away for 5 years since I was 12 (until 2 years ago when we moved together). You didn't see me grow and fight for the values you have instilled in me when I was little. I don't want to say "you'll get use to it like you once did" and I won't. Just remember that all I'm doing is for you. It is not really my responsibility but that's how much I love you. You don't have to ask for me to give.

Where Have I Been?

Posted by -edz- on 10:44 PM in , ,
1. I am taking summer classes to speed up my major.
2. I got my official driver’s license a couple of weeks ago (no longer a permit). Hence, I now hold the responsibility of driving myself to school, to work, and to wherever else I need to go to. That's an additional responsibility that eats up my time. I spend about 30 minutes driving from home to school and another 30 minutes back. That does not include the drive to and from work yet.
3. Before getting my license, I used to make my dad my personal driver. Now that I got my license, my siblings are making me their personal driver.
4. I have a new part time job, thus, that's another 24 hours of my week (minimum).
5. The past two weeks was spent preparing requirements for my new job. (Hassle, really!)
6. I still review my sister for her upcoming Math proficiency exam and my youngest brother with his daily homework. So, daily, when I get home I am not greeted with “rest” just yet but with more tasks. (That’s what I get for being the eldest.)
7. From time to time my other brother still bugs me to teach him how to play guitar. And every time he asks I give him the same responses – "I am busy", "I have an exam to study for," or "I'm writing an essay/research paper." (I guess he just has to wait ‘till I graduate. Haha!)
8. The top two questions people ask me all the time are "How are you?" and "How is your love life?" Here are my answers to that, which by the way are the same 99 % of the time: "I am okay, thank you for asking" and "I am too busy for that."
9. I have exams, quizzes, and practicals every day! Talk about the pleasures of summer school.
10. Writing all the updates above makes my mind go crazy.
11. As I am writing this I am memorizing stuff for my test which is in an hour from now.
12. I now have two blogs, both of which I struggle to maintain since I am too busy with my other life. (Do I even have a life?)

So that explain it my co-bloggers as to why I have been absent from the blogging scene for the past couple of weeks. I have been doing so many things with the thinking that I am invincible to sickness. But I was wrong. Even superheroes get tired and sick. Haha.

Teen Burns Ex-boyfriend's House

Posted by -edz- on 8:25 PM in , , ,
Just when you think breaking up with someone ends easily with that “breakup talk” that starts with the “We need to talk” line, think again. Most people think saying “it’s over”technically means it is over between you and your partner. However, this nineteen-year-old girl from Pennsylvania thinks otherwise.

May 22, 2008 – Thursday, Shanta Dargbeh from Bristol, PA set fire the residence of her ex-boyfriend in Hillcrest Avenue in Trenton, NJ. Although no one was injured in the incident, it unfortunately left 10 people homeless. Nine of them were home that early morning when the fire started on the home’s front porch. The family climbed through the windows to escape the burning house and save their lives. Two of them were treated for smoke inhalation.

Why it happened? Authorities reported that Dargbeh got furious and upset at hearing that her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend brought another girl to the Trenton High School prom the previous weekend. Hence, she burnt his house. (Talk about sweet revenge.)

Unfortunately, everything has a price. Just as Dargbeh’s ex-boyfriend’s house got burned, Dargbeh herself was arrested. Friday - May 23 - she was arrested by authorities and today faces 10 felony charges including aggravated arson. She is being held on a $250,000 bail. Yes, that’s definitely a lot of money and charges to pay for a case of rejection.

Now that has got me thinking whether that revenge was as sweet now as she thought it would be. Kids these days.

Girl to Conquer NBA?

Posted by -edz- on 11:28 PM in ,
Although more and more women are now playing professional basketball, the stereotype that such sport is better of for men still exists. Well, think again because 12-year-0ld, Jamie Nard, is conquering and dominating the courts of both female and male basketball. As her teammate said,"Her greatness, it like sprinkles off and goes unto us and it kinda makes us better as a player too." Well with a height and skills like that, her dreams are closer to her reach than what she thinks.

AI's DC and DA

Posted by -edz- on 3:43 PM in , , ,
So, today’s the day for most of you. (Yeah, that does not include me) And why is that? As we all know, tonight the biggest and most anticipated question will be answered – “Will it be DC or DA?” Oh come on, don’t act like you don’t know what that means.

Tonight is the Grand Finale of American Idol Season 7 and the most awaited verdict as to who will be the newest Idol sensation will be announced. The battle between David Cook and David Archuleta will finally be answered. Have you cast your votes? Well, if not what are you waiting for? Vote now for you favorite idol. You may be their last chance.

As for my opinion, whoever the ultimate Idol may be, we all know they have come a really really long way and have grown so much in this competition. And still, there is even more room for growth after tonight.

I’m sure everyone will be hooked in front of their TV screens tonight. Oh well, we all know from day 1 as to who will reign this season but the suspense is worth the watch.

Why I Am Hot

Posted by -edz- on 8:42 PM in , , ,

Wow, things have been crazy these past few weeks that’s why I have not updated my blog lately. Latest would be first of all, I took the last exam for my Spring semester last Saturday. Yey! So much for Spring 2008! Unfortunately, I only had yesterday (Sunday) for vacation. Yeah, cause Summer school starts today! Ha! Yeah, I enrolled for the whole 3 sessions of summer! Crazy? Yeah, I guess. I decided to preoccupy myself with school this entire season. What a way to spend ones summer “vacation,” huh? Oh well, as they say, No pain no gain. Haha!

Anyways, some of you may have known few of my clumsy stories in the past. And by that I mean incidences that happened because I could be a little klutz at times. Okay, not a little probably. So here’s another crazy story that happened to me today. So I got to school around 9 in the morning expecting my class to start at some minutes past 11. I logged on to the internet and printed out some important papers and paid some bills. Then about 10:30 I realized I dropped the class which is suppose to start today and replaced it with a one that will not start until about 3 weeks from now! You see! Ain’t that crazy! So I had to rush to the Registrar’s Office upon realizing that the class I dropped was going to start about 30 minutes from that time. I drank my can of lunch-to-go and rushed to the office. Good thing that today is the last day to add that class in person. So there I was greeted with a long line. Thank God it moved fast. Then finally it was my turn! I told the guy who entertained me my concerns, however, he said he cannot do anything about it. I would have to go to the Summer term office to have it re-added. Wow, I didn’t know where that office is ‘cause it’s my first time to enroll classes for summer.

With about 15 minutes left I rushed and looked for the said office and had to wait for a couple of minutes before it was my turn to be accommodated. Then it was me! The lady processed my requests fast enough that I was able to get to my class about 2 or 3 minutes before it would start. So talk about Supergirl!

Now, you might think my sufferings ended there, no – you’re wrong. After class I had to walk all the way to the university bookstore which is located on other end of campus. Wow! They ran out of books and CD’s. Pretty stupid of me since I was there that morning and there were still some copies left. I decided to further my sufferings and crossed the street to check out the other big bookstore. Lo and behold – they ran out too and they were the cheapest. I walked to the other bookstore that I’ve never been to since and they ran out too.

What a great day! And to top it all, it was 109 deg Fahrenheit or 42.8 deg Celsius. In English that means hot as hell! So while I was walking back to the university library, I called my dad to check the book on Barnes and Noble website. There was only one copy left out of the 5 branches near where I live. Thank God. Unfortunately, they don’t have the 4 CD set that comes with the book and the university bookstore’s order will not arrived until tomorrow. But I am left with no other choice.

However, despite the entire “marathon” (as my mom called it) under the heat of the sun, this is still a day worth looking back to. I learned so many lessons and the most important is – God is always with me. Now, I can sleep soundly. Really soundly after all the trouble I went through.

Mother's Day Reminder

Posted by -edz- on 2:43 PM in , ,
Ding dong! Ding dong! Reminder!

If you have not realized yet, Mother’s Day is just a few hours from now! (Technically, as I’m writing this it’s 33 and a half hours from now.) So, the big question is – “Have you already prepared a present?”

I asked a friend this question a couple of hours ago and he said, “Yeah, a kiss!” Well, we all know a kiss isn’t bad for a gift, in fact we give that almost every day. But this is one special day for all mothers (or wives for some of you around the world and I personally think it is just but right to get our mothers (grandmothers and wives) something really special.

A simple card isn’t that expensive and hard to get. Or even a simple letter that contains your whole heart and gratitude for everything your mother has done for you. (Which by the way we all know is a lot. Our mothers have definitely done so many things for us going back to the very day they conceived us.) Of course you could always buy her a ticket for a concert or show or probably a trip to the saloon or spa center to get some relaxing time. Or you could start her morning by surprising her with some lovely flowers (which all women definitely love).

So here is a reminder guys, please grab something special and unique for your mothers/grandmothers/wives. This day only comes once a year so might as well make it really special and memorable. One wonderful day is more than enough for them. Then you could use the remaining days of the year to go back to your busy lives. *smiles*

So to all the MOTHERS/GRANDMOTHERS out there:
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

George Clooney is MY Celebrity Soulmate

Posted by -edz- on 2:01 AM in , , , ,
So my sister showed me this little online celebrity soulmate test a few weeks ago but I wasn't able to find time to post it here until now. I did the test quite a few times and kept getting George Clooney as my "celebrity soulmate." I think it's cool since we all know he's a fabulous actor and a consistent contender for the world's sexiest man title. Plus, he's heck of a funny guy and he loves his parents. *lol* I wish to meet him someday though. Perhaps after I see him personally I'll fall in love with him even more. Hahaha.

Anyways, the test is really short and fun to do. It's a nice way to spend a break from once busy world. So, I hope you guys try it and let me know which celebrity is your soulmate. (There is a separate test for females and males)

First off, April just ended and today's the start of another month! Whew! Time just flies by in a flash.

Anyways, here's a random video I made. Instead of doing school related matters, I did this. *laugh* I just wanted to share my day with you and ask your opinions. Pardon the music during the first three quarters of the vid. I didn't realize it was that loud. *smiles*

A Saturday of Compliments

Posted by -edz- on 2:18 AM in , ,

Warning: This post is a personal entry.

I have been trying to avoid writing entries that talk about my personal experiences because I think of this blog as a way to inform people of life’s various simple lessons. Yeah, some of my posts may not outrightly show those lessons but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. Well, isn’t life like that? Life doesn’t shout to us all the answers right away. It whispers to us and asks us to listen patiently. But anyways, getting back on track, this blog is about everyone’s journey.

I know I’ve been really busy these past few weeks as you’ve noticed in my blog. The next couple of weeks will be worse. My finals start this week until the next 2 weeks. Then after that hopefully my spring semester will be totally over. Meaning, I can move on to the next level and finish all my courses with flying colors. I can already sense and smell the sweet scent of success and achievements. Anyways, I was just dreaming. I’m still a bit far from the end of this chapter’s race.

The past couple of weeks have been tough for me. I’ve been slacking off and kinda rushing to beat time and the urge to stay online for hours (like now). Although, I think the hard work is being paid off at the end of most days. And yesterday was one of those days. Yeah, some days don’t really pay off all the efforts I’ve put into.

During Saturdays I usually go to school because I have a general education course scheduled to meet once a week for about 3 hours straight. We had a major exam and a paper due about a week prior to yesterday’s in-class meeting so the professor was due to give back the results. I felt really uneasy when he was giving back the papers since he was commenting on everyone’s performance. He said to one of my classmates, “Outstanding job!” I didn’t know how I did so I felt he would say negative comments or nothing at all. And then it was my turn, he held my paper close to his chest as he thought of the right words to use then he finally said, “Absolutely super A student. You perfected the exam!” Wow. I think I pretty much turned red at that time. Just the perfect words. At that moment my smile felt like it was about to tear my whole face.

Anyways, fast-forward. Right after class, I was the second person about to leave the room when the professor called me. He said, “You’re doing a fantastic job in this class. In fact, you’re one of the best students I’ve ever had.” Here in the States cases like this seldom happen. College professors don’t normally give too much attention to their students’ performance. Ei, I don’t mean to say they do not care at all. By it I mean, for example, they don’t normally approach students to tell them they’re doing great in class. In here when you have a problem, as the student, you have the responsibility to approach your instructor and not the other way around. I mean, we’re already in college right? We’re no longer kids.

So that was how my yesterday (Saturday) went.
It wasn’t a “best day” but that day served a witnessed of how someone’s hard work does really pay off.

Harry Potter Star's Jest

Posted by -edz- on 10:00 PM in , , ,
So here’s the latest scoop everyone. In my prior entry, I talked about Daniel Radcliffe’s search for an Australian mystery girl who caught his eye in one AFI awards night he attended in the past. A few hours after The Daily Telegraph published their article about the boy wizard’s search, a number of girls stepped up saying they were the one who bewitched the young actor. But among those girls, 2 ladies stood out as the possible mystery girl. Both of the girls, blond 20-year-old Cassi McKay from Sydney, and brown-haired saxophonist Savannah Blount from Melbourne, played in David Campbell’s band at the after party and shared a picture with the actor during the event.

Sadly for our lover boy, both ladies already have boyfriends. Savannah Blount revealed that the actor was very polite, sweet, charming, and handsome. Although, she confessed he’s “very short [and she’s] more for the taller type of guy.” Ouch! On the other hand though, Cassi McKay has been set to travel to UK next week for a four-month vacation. And, she is open to meeting up with the millionaire actor again. She said, “I've told my boyfriend about him and I'd be keen to meet up." And if you’re wondering how Ms. McKay’s boyfriend is reacting to all of these? Well, he is not a big fan of the actor. In fact, he has not read any of the Harry Potter books nor watched any of the movies. Although, it doesn’t worry him if his girlfriend of more than two years wants to meet up with the actor since he “trusts her.” Now, that’s what I call a supportive boyfriend.

Now, you might think these girls broke the heart and the Daniel Radcliffe’s hope of finally finding true love. Well, guess again. Few hours ago, the actor’s London-based representative stepped into the scene and brought a new twist to this whole mystery girl search. Yes, a twist. She told New York’s Daily News that the Harry Potter star’s search was only a joke. She added, "(Radcliffe's comments) were meant in jest, but sadly been blown out of all proportion."

Edz React:
Some people laugh at this whole story. Indeed it is a big joke. Cassi McKay, first to assume the mystery girl title, revealed on an initial interview with The Daily Telegraph that she did not want her 15 minutes of fame and is very much committed to her boyfriend. Oh yes, she and her boyfriend had been in the tabloids and interviews all over the place. And Savannah Blount said she finds the young actor short and prefers tall man (like her boyfriend I suppose). So they were thinking they caught Daniel Radcliffe’s heart. Then all of a sudden the actor says it was a joke that was taken out of context. Oh, wow. Girls take that! Indeed this twist brought the two girls’ 15 minutes of fame to an end. Boy, what a laugh to end a day. I guess noble princes searching for average-simple girls may only happen in movies after all. Ever wondered why Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage never worked out in the end?

P.S.
I’ve researched this whole story and referred to various articles on the internet. Because I used too many articles, I find it overwhelming to post them all here. So, pardon me if I am no longer going to cite my sources.

The Wizard's Search for Mystery Girl

Posted by -edz- on 9:52 AM in , , ,
Every girl wishes to have a fairytale love story (except me). They would want a prince charming to save them from the dungeon and sweep them off their feet. That explains why movies such as Nothing Hill and Pretty Woman topped the box office charts when released. (Almost) Every average-simple girl probably dreams to have a rich-famous-handsome guy fall in love with her and search for her. Although most people say, these stories only happen in books and movies.

Uhhmmm. You might think that’s impossible to happen nowadays huh? But think again. There are still some people out there with pure hearts and with so much sincere love to give. Would you believe me if I tell you the famous Daniel Radcliffe is one of those very rare men? Yes, Daniel Radcliffe as in Daniel Radcliffe from one of the most successful book series ever turned to blockbuster movies.

The famous young actor revealed he was bewitched by an Australian woman sometime late last year during an AFI awards night. He shared in his interview with The Daily Telegraph:
"There was one girl there, oh my god, she had these eyes that just looked at me like she wanted to pounce on me. She stared at me the whole night and I was going to get her number and then I couldn't find her.”

"I must have walked around that party for an hour trying to look for this girl, like some sad pathetic dweeb but it would have been so worth it."

"I don't know, I don't know her name, I can't remember her name. It was one of those things but she was stunning," he said.

The actor shared he has troubles finding the right woman and is cautious of “gold diggers” who would only be after his fame and fortune.

Now the newspaper – The Daily Telegraph – is helping search for Radcliffe’s mysterious Aussie-girl. And the whole world awaits.

Edz React:
Uhhmmm.. What did I tell you? Probably in our modern times there are still men with hearts like the nobles princes from movies. But I guess it’s still too soon to tell. I know this search will not last long. It will end any time soon and everyone will be talking about it. So far, while I’m writing this blog entry, they still have not found the girl. But I will update you guys with the latest. I’ll research it for you. So keep watch. Lets see how far this story will go.

100 Days Old 2008 and Centenarians

Posted by -edz- on 11:21 PM in , , , ,
31 + 29 + 31 + 9 = ?

When New Year of 2008 was only a few minutes away, I could not believe how time flies by so fast. Then it was already the first day of 2008. Then after some time, I realized January was already over. Then February came. Then March. Then last week, the month of April started. We’re already in our 4th month of the year. Wow! Time is definitely in a hurry.

But do any of you count the days? I guess not. We, humans, tend to get very preoccupied with worldly matters that we “no longer have time” for such childish activity. “We’re too busy to count the days,” right?

Anyways, I hope some of you have noticed that today is the 100th day of 2008. So Happy 100th Day! Yes, it has already been 100 days since the year started. That was the purpose of the equation above.

So, what have you done so far?
What did you accomplish in those 100 days?
How is the progress of your New Year’s Resolutions?

Anyways, below are a couple of links about people who reached their 100 years of age. Yes, 100 years and not days. And check out what they did in those 100 years, how they are living their lives, and what they are planning to do in the near future.

100-Year-Old Celebrate Her Birthday By Smoking 170,000th Cigarette
Margaret Pearson is Still Cruisin' at 100
100-Year-Old Told "Take Day Off"
100-Year-Old Decides It's Time To Retire
100-Year-Old Becomes U.S. Citizen
100-Year-Old Receives College Degree
Discount For 100-Year-Old Driver
100-Year-Old Iowa Man Loves Hooters, Hates George W. Bush

I hope you read these articles. The stories of these centenarians (a person who has reached the age of 100 or more) make me wonder if I could live to be a century old. I wish I could though, since there is so much more I want to do in this lifetime.

Ramiele Malubay Leaves American Idol

Posted by -edz- on 9:53 PM in , , ,
Tomorrow another episode of everyone’s favorite show – The American Idol – will air. Unfortunately, the Filipino community, or probably most of the Asian community, might not be so enthusiastic about tomorrow’s performances. As we all know the only representative of the Asian community was voted out from the competition last week. Yes, I’m talking about Ramiele Malubay. For some fans, it was a shocker! On the other hand, though, some viewers might have already anticipated her exit. I missed that night’s show, but I must admit I was disappointed too when I learned she was eliminated from “Idol.”

Some people argue that she should have stayed and “Idol” should have been a competition based on talent and not on popularity. However, the latter’s a very debatable topic so I don’t want to touch and elaborate that issue. What happened already happened. Although Ramiele will no longer perform weekly in the competition, she has already proven herself to the world. She has already proven her talent and versatility. She’s not only a great performer but also a friend and a daughter. As the judges say, she has a great voice for a small girl. Yeah, Ramiele! That’s how we are!

Being in the top 9 is already a great achievement. No t everyone could get to have the opportunities you’ve experienced. Although we would no longer be regularly seeing you in “Idol,” we will always be your fans. Just as you are proud to be an Asian and to represent us, we are also very proud to have you represent us in Hollywood’s music industry. This won’t be the last we’ll see of you. Good luck and always keep your feet planted on the ground. Like what Ryan said, “You did a tremendous job!”

Below is a clip of Ramiele’s elimination from “Idol.”

St. Peter, Easter Eggs and Bunnies

Posted by -edz- on 12:50 AM in , ,
I know most of you already know the story I wrote below but I still want to put it up and share with everyone. I apologize if you find this entry unpleasing though. I did not post it to insult any religious believe. I, myself, believe in the Lord.

The real message is within the story. I hope you get it and continue to practice your faith or whatever beliefs you might have. Enjoy reading. Oh one more thing, I know Easter Sunday and egg hunting are already over but that's not the main point of the story. *wink*

********************************

Our Lord was worried because there have been too many arrivals in heaven. He called to task St. Peter for the laxity in the screening of new entrants.

The Lord suggested that the new arrivals should undergo some kind of entrance test. They are to be asked about their religion.

St. Peter thought the idea was excellent. After thinking what would be the most crucial question, he came up with the following: “What is the significance of Easter?”

“Well, it is a… er… a day… when… ah… we color eggs and children hunt them in the playground.” “You must go to hell,” St. Peter ordered.

“How about you?” he asked pointing at the second person in line. The woman straightened up and pondered what to answer. “Er… ah… on Easter there is usually this er… bunny. A rabbit!”

“You, too, must go to hell,” decided the exasperated Saint.
The next in line had overheard the previous dialogues. He looked ready and sure of himself.

“And you,” St. Peter asked the third arrival, “What is the meaning of Easter?” The man brightened up and replied, “That is when Jesus was crucified, died, and buried. And on the third day He rose again.”

“Praise be to God” St. Peter exclaimed, “finally, there’s one person worthy of entering heaven… And what else can you say about Easter?”

Oozing with confidence, he went on, “After Jesus rose from the cave, he got out to chase the bunny and hunt the colored egged in the playground!”

St. Peter almost collapsed.

Earth Hour - Go and Make a Difference

Posted by -edz- on 2:12 AM in , ,
So I did my usual rounds of computer activities this morning; I checked my emails on yahoo, my friendster, and multiply. Then I realized I needed to google up something for school so, of course, where would I start to “google up” something? At Google of course! I clicked on my little Google icon then suddenly the their usual white main page was black. For a second, I thought something was wrong with my laptop or I accidentally pressed a wrong key.

I got surprised to know that even Google experiences blackouts.
*Laughing* Of course, they do.. not! It turned out that they are participating in the worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. I’m not going to elaborate on this Earth Hour for I want you to discover and learn it for yourself.
So please visit their website and click on the link: 60 Earth Hour

I’ve also posted a copy of their main page video here

Here is also how Google’s page looked like when they forgot to pay last month’s electricity bills: Google Earth Hour

Now, I don’t want to rant about global warming because I trust my readers to already know about it. Well, maybe not a lot of information about it but at least some general idea as to what it is and how it affects the entire world. Another reason why I also don’t want to start explaining is because I did researches and written papers about this major issue and if I try to share it here I might not end any time soon. (you wouldn’t want that for sure)

Let me just share with you three simple things I regularly do to contribute in the reduction of global warming:
1. Turn off lights when not in use. In fact, even unplug my laptop from time to time while using it especially when I know the battery’s already full. So pull up those blinds, open those curtains and windows, and greet the lovely sunshine! Not only will you save on electricity but letting some sun into your house also kills bacteria inside.
2. Reduce the wattage of the light bulbs. So I actually convinced my whole family to change the wattage of the light bulbs we use in the entire house. Come to think of it, by doing so you not only contribute to global warming reduction but also lower down your electric bills. *wink*
3. Share the knowledge! Of course, little actions help reduce this global phenomenon but it also helps a lot if we share that knowledge to other people. They may know about this issue but they may not actually be doing something to help. Sharing some information may entice them to start acting on it. Hey, it doesn’t take you a minute to say “Ei Buddy, by the way can you please turn off the lights if you’re not using it. That really helps a lot in reducing Global Warming. Thanks my friend”.

Other than my research papers, I get additional information from the organizations I signed up with – organizations that promote awareness and action about this global issue. I also receive regular updates from emails and postal mails. And I hope you guys do it too.

Let us love our planet guys. Let us all unite in saving it. It’s our mother. And it’s our home. Let’s go and make a difference.

You work at a marriage.
There are no shortcuts.
There are bumps on the road.

if necessary take another route, but always together.

Prayer for the War

Posted by -edz- on 10:01 PM in , , , ,
Last week there were prayer vigils and rallies held in almost every state in America to mark the 5th year anniversary of the war in Iraq. Some people say that the war is over and Americans are now helping the Iraqis fix their country. While on the other hand, some would argue that the war is still going on and it will not end any time soon.

Whether you believe the war has ended or not doesn’t really matter. There are still thousands of soldiers out there risking their lives. Back in 2001, almost the entire world mourned over the loss during the “terrorist attack” in America. Almost every citizen in the United States wanted to attack Iraq, to have revenge, and to seek justice.
Now, five years later, thousands of American soldiers have already died and still the war isn’t officially over. The number of fatalities of both American soldiers and Iraqis continues to rise.

Last night, four US soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb. Over 5 years of war, the death toll of American soldiers had officially reached 4,000. That number only represents the fatalities of American soldiers, how about their “enemies?” How many people, both innocent and guilty, have died all in all? How many families have suffered from lost and longing? How many children were born and raised without their fathers? Or both parents? How many soldiers are suffering from depression and frustration? How many lives have been affected?

Whether the war should have been started or not no longer matters. What matters most are the lives of the people. We all live in one world and we are all affected by this war. No matter what officials are going to do about the war right now, one thing’s for sure – the killings will not end soon.

I hope we all pray for the soldiers doing their jobs and the innocent Iraqis trying to live in peace. We don’t know when the killings would end, but we all know that there is someone who continues to listen. I know not everyone believes in a divine being but I know we all yearn for someone to take us away from the sorrows we are experiencing. Prayer is our best weapon in times like this.

Happy Easter Spring Break is Over!

Posted by -edz- on 8:04 PM in , , ,
First of all, thank you for those who read my previous post and enjoyed the 8 facts I posted about myself. Hopefully the 8 people I tagged would respond and also post 8 facts about themselves.

Anyways, like me, I’m sure you’ve all observed how quiet our surroundings are today. Some stores are closed while some are only open for half of the day. At the same time the churches are packed with people. I’m pretty sure you all know what today is, right? It is Easter Sunday!

Well, aside from your usual Easter parties do you really know what this day is all about? Easter is one of the most important religious feasts in the Christian liturgical year. Christians around the globe celebrate this day in practice of their belief that Christ resurrected 3 days after his crucifixion.

Now I’m not going to go into further details for I’m sure your priests or pastors have already explained it or you probably are non-Christian. However, what is wonderful about today is that some non-religious cultural elements have become a part of this holiday most of which are celebrated by both Christians and non-Christians.

To my fellow Christians: Happy Easter Sunday to all of you.

To kids: Did you enjoy take a picture with the Easter Bunny? Tell me, how much did you get from egg hunting? *wink*

To everybody: Too bad the stores are closed. I know how you guys feel, I also wasn’t able to do my usual grocery and shopping. Oh! One more thing – careful on those chocolate eggs. A few minutes of walk after your barbecuing party won’t hurt.

To myself: Hey, it’s the end of your Spring Break. Better open your books and start catching up with school. You know you’ve been slacking off lately. *wink*

I've Been Tagged. 8 Facts About Me.

Posted by -edz- on 4:38 PM in ,
This entry is to answer a tag from my co-blogger Happymommy from “A Blessed Life” (check out her link on the side). This isn’t the first time I was tagged but it’s the first time I’ll actually respond. Wohoo! I was planning to make a video to answer the tag but thought that it would take more time to do that. So, I guess you would have to bear reading this entry instead of watching a vid and make fun of me. But I promise I’ll make one and upload it soon.

Anyways, just like any other game, this tag also has rules and here they are:
* Each blogger must post these rules first.
* Each blogger starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
* Bloggers that are tagged need to write on their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
* At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
* Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

So here are 8 things about me:

Fact number 1:
I love the color blue! I like it so much that during my 18th birthday I had a debut and used the color blue as my color motif. All the tables and chairs had blue (baby blue/light blue) cloths, my gown was blue, roses were painted blue, souvenirs were blue, cake was blue, and balloons were blue. Of course my face wasn’t painted blue. But at home my house slippers are blue, my laptops welcome page is blue, pajamas are blue, and blanket is blue. And sometimes because I like blue so much I end up feeling blue. And boy, I wish blue wasn’t my favorite color.

Fact number 2:
I am not afraid of any creatures, animals, or insects. Oh well, I am afraid of one thing though.
I am afraid and do not like cats. I despise them so much that I could not even dare look at them even in pictures. I freak out when I see one either in person or in photographs. They just give me the creeps. As to why I do not like such “so cute and loving” creatures, secret! And for one thing, I do not think of them as loving or sweet.

So if you add both facts number 1 and 2 the equation would be this:
I like blue + I hate cats = I do not like Hello Kitty!

Fact number 3:
I do not know how to put on make-up. Although I’m a female, that’s probably one thing I can never do in my entire life. Well, okay, I can powder my face and put on some lipstick or lip gloss but other than those two I’m useless. I do not know how to put on the rest.

Fact number 4:
I have a scar on my forehead. I'm my own Harry Potter. I got this when I was six or seven during a Christmas party. I remember my mom called me that time to eat and she warned me specifically not to pass by the playground. Guess what? I still did. I played on the swing with a girl friend. The swing went too high that I let go and fell on the ground. As soon as I stood up the swing swung back and hit my forehead. So that wasn’t a really happy Christmas experience for me. Lesson: Kids, follow your parents when they say don’t do something, okay?

Fact number 5:
When I was little, I sang in a Christmas party and won a cash prize. It was kinda funny that I won considering that I only looked at the wall across me the whole time. I was so nervous that I never looked at the audience. Oh well, what matters is that I won. Yeah, for some unknown reason I won. Hey, don’t mock me. I wasn’t the only contestant okay. There were more. I was just the best. *laugh out loud*

Fact number 6:
I always wear a scapular. By always I mean all the time. I do not take it off unless extremely necessary. I’ve been wearing it for around 4 years now. I always feel protected when I have it. And if I don’t wear it, I feel incomplete and somehow unsecured. Well, if you find me not wearing it, it’s probably in my pocket ‘cause I don’t just leave it anywhere. Whenever I’m nervous or scared I just clasp the cross and I’ll feel okay.

Fact number 7:
I always sleep on one side of the bed and in one position. I don’t move a lot. One time during my high school I was sleeping then suddenly my nanny woke me up. When I asked her why she said she was just nervous and concerned. She worried if I was still alive because I had the same position the whole time. She just wanted to make sure. I wonder how it would have been for her if I pretended to be dead. *wink*

Fact number 8:
I love movies! I love movies so much that I want to be in one. I want to have my own movie. *laughing out loud* I’m just kidding. Seriously, I love movies so much that I have this weird feeling when a whole week would pass and I have not seen any new film. I somehow get irritated then I’d look for ways to be able to watch one. Weird but that’s true.

So that’s it. Those are 8 facts about me. Probably 8 facts you just don’t see on other normal human beings. =) I know it is long but thanks for reading. To HappyMommy, thanks for tagging me. I had fun knowing myself.
